This is a comprehensive thread documenting every detail uncovered from the GTA VI leaks. The information below is sourced from The GTA VI Document (v1.6), compiled by the extended mapping and r/GTA6 Discord communities as well as GTAForums. This thread is structured as an evolving reference — not speculation, but a catalogued breakdown of what was actually found in the leaked footage and code.
To be clear: the leaks were a terrible thing that should never have happened. We stand with the Rockstar employees who were most affected. Still, the community dissected every frame, and this is the result.
What Was Leaked on September 18, 2022
The original September 18 leak consisted of:
- 90 video clips spanning from under 10 seconds to over 3 minutes, with recording dates from March 2021 to September 2022
- 2 PDF screenshots related to camera controls and build previews for developers, from "Camera-Americas-v6-20220918_031841.pdf"
- Python code related to the game menu (see the Python Leak section below)
- "GameHeaders_Tasks" C++ code containing information about various game AI tasks, with specific references to GTA V features
- Vehicle handling data from GTA V's source code
RAGE Engine Notes
The leaked footage reveals several technical details about the game engine:
- Tweaked Euphoria physics can be seen when enemies fall or the player jumps and ragdolls
- Lighting and Skybox systems from Red Dead Redemption 2 are present, including volumetric clouds
- Heavy fog appears in Americas 2022-04-06 15-55-26 where Lucia is in a shootout with police — far thicker than anything in GTA V, with visibility reduced to just a few meters ahead
- Some clips use low-detail character models labeled
low_int - Character labels in the debug are numbered based on the stage of the story
- Every World Event has a set of rules the player must fulfill for it to trigger, with conditions like
isPlayableCharacter(PlayerLucia or PlayerJason) andisWantedRule. Green dots on the right side of each World Event show which conditions are met
Characters
Lucia — One of the two protagonists. The "Bonnie" of the Bonnie & Clyde story structure reported by Jason Schreier. Possibly a hacker, based on the tools she carries (Tracker Jammer, Immobilizer Bypass, USB Drive, Auto Dialer). Her height is 5'3" (160cm). She breaks out of a cage with the line: "Break out of the fucking cage."
Jason — The other protagonist. The "Clyde" of the story. In a confirmed relationship with Lucia, as evidenced by the diner clip. His height is 6'1" (185cm).
Debug code confirms the protagonist structure: PLAYER_LUCIA_PLAYER_STORY000_00 and PLAYER_JASON_PLAYER_STORY000_01.
Disclaimer: "Bonnie and Clyde" is a key term used by Jason Schreier. This does not mean GTA VI's story will be totally inspired by it, let alone share the same ending. Schreier used it because everyone knows the reference and it made clear that Jason and Lucia are a criminal couple.
Supporting Characters
Dre — Friend of Boobie. Introduces Jason and Lucia to him. According to him, he got in touch with a couple of artists.
Sam — Friend of Dre. Seen having problems with his partner at the club.
Billy Tit — A close friend of Dre and a DJ at the nightclub. On thin ice after insulting Dre for not bringing his drinks. Dre tells him "this is why no one likes him" and considers firing him.
Kai — New contact.
Wyman — Connected to car parts collectibles. Has a rant event and initial meeting event in the world events list.
RB Shaw — New contact.
Zach — Unknown role.
Mentioned Characters
Dale (Dale's Shopwell), Chester (Chester's Music / Chester Fee Before/Post Blackmail), Iris (Iris Laundry, art fence introductions), Danny (Danny Limit Before/Post Blackmail), Vicky (phone calls, watching events), Shanese (chat event), and Boobie.
Mission Icons show YJ on the minimap. Speculation: Shanese could be seen in Trailer 1 under the username "shaneycee." An unknown Jack of Hearts DJ and an NPC talking to Wyman were also spotted.
Universe & Lore
Jay Norris from GTA V is mentioned in Americas 2022-09-06 17-13-34, confirming GTA VI is set in the same HD Universe.
Gangs
Three gang factions have been identified:
San 4 San — A Haitian gang. They have a hood with a Drug House, Gas Station, and Thrift Store in Little Haiti. Events reference their territory extensively.
Guardia Brothers — They have a hideout in North Vice City.
Far Right Militia — Referenced in the events list with a multi-part progression: Far Right Militia Training → Trucks Only → Final Visit, plus a Survival Compound First Visit. It's unknown if they'll be an active gang or just a group encountered while exploring, similar to the Klan in RDR2.
Trailer 1 confirmed gangs are marked in green in the event data.

The leaks reveal a wide range of items the player can carry:

Americas 2021-06-22 20-24-48 — Split into three sections: Weapons, Equipment, and Gear (similar to RDR2's Weapons, Items, and Horse sections). Large weapon capacity.
Americas_1 2021-09-10 16-37-50 — Almost identical to the one above.
Americas 2022-01-20 11-18-26 — Significant redesign. Players could hold different weapons in each hand, with an additional Quick Item Inventory at the bottom left for consumables (trauma kits, pills, cigarettes, food). Weapon capacity limited. Dual-wielding can also be confirmed in Americas_1 2022-08-29 12-44-36 through the debug menu.
Americas 2022-06-01 17-16-15 — The latest version seen. Dual-wielding removed. Quick Inventory moved to center left. Weapon capacity still limited. Based on weapon positions, you can carry approximately: one assault weapon on your back, one handgun or semi-auto, one or two smaller melee weapons (like a knife), one or two tools/items (like a flashlight), plus an "unarmed" slot for holstering.
Americas_1 2022-08-10 12-27-03 — Shows a health tip: "You are injured. Your health will regenerate slowly, open your Weapon Wheel and use a recovery item to replenish your health faster."
Open World Activities
Confirmed activities: Dice (apparently Jason-exclusive based on isPlayableCharacter event parameters), Golf, Fishing, Races, Scuba Diving.
Enterable Buildings
A massive feature of GTA VI is the number of enterable buildings. From Americas_1 2022-08-29 12-44-36, debug code reads: Creator Name: pedpopulation.cpp (3032): CPedPopulation::AddPed(CScenarioSpawnHelper) Interior:157/ss15lok_1_gfa_bespoke Room:1/room-Main — meaning at least 157 interiors existed in the game at the time of the leak.
Confirmed enterable locations: Malibu Club, Pawn Shops, Jack of Hearts Strip Club, Supermarkets, Bars, Restaurants, Apartments (from a set of interiors seen in Americas_1 2022-08-02 20-20-00), Laundries, Gas Stations, Convenience Stores.
Enterable buildings seen in Trailer 1 are marked in green.
Robberies and Deliveries
Van Shipment — In Americas 2022-05-25 13-29-33, a delivery van event spawns near an industrial area of Port Gellhorn. Garages have security camera warning posters, requiring stealth. Also events for Port Gellhorn Delivery/Pickup Warehouse.
Robberies — The Hank's Waffles robbery and Jason entering a pawn shop activating his ability suggest robberies are significantly expanded and available at many locations around the map, including cargo containers (possibly Jason-only). Events also exist for finding items in vehicle trunks and in food stores.
Multiplayer
In the bottom left of Americas_1 2022-05-24 17-19-42, the text PL: 2/32 is visible — two players in a 30-player lobby (two spectator slots, similar to GTA Online and RDO). SH: PR_RSN1 references the script host, and GM H: PR_RSN1 references either the session host or game master.
Collectibles
Two collectible types have been identified:
Wyman Car Parts — Includes the Classique Logo. These have a circle icon indicating all collectibles and pickable items use a circle indicator. They also have a DYNAMIC flag suggesting they can be moved.
Collectible Hats — Jason's hats are a separate collectible category.

Bite, Snapmatic, Bleeter, E-Cola (logo restored by community member sirstirfry), Sprunk — all with redesigned logos. Some are also seen in GTA Online.
Speculation: Snapmatic logo was updated again in Trailer 1.

Mythical/Special: Skunk Ape — seen in Americas 2022-04-21 16-26-26. On the Grassrivers wildlife placard, there is a silhouette of a bipedal creature with a question mark titled "A new alpha." It's unknown whether this is the Skunk Ape or an additional mythical creature.
Possible (from debug/code): Horse (debug menu shows INPUT_HORSE_EXIT, though this may be leftover RAGE code from RDR2), Cow (Runway Cow event), Deer, Buck.

New Mechanics
These are mechanics not present in GTA V. Some are from RDR2, others entirely new to the series.
Cover and Movement: Go prone, switch shoulders while aiming, walk while in cover, grappling during fist fights, underfire (covering face with weapons or bats, works while crouching).
Loot System: Jason and Lucia both carry duffle bags visible in several clips. In Americas 2021-10-29 20-21-10, Jason opens a shipping container with options for "stash gold" and "stash cash stack," placing items into his duffle bag. Cash is picked up one-by-one. There's also an animation for picking up duffle bags.
Combat: Downed Self-Suicide and Downed Self-Revive (option to revive yourself after heavy damage, possibly similar to RDR2 horse revival — Americas 2022-04-28 13-08-47). Ability to drop and pick up weapons (Americas_1 2021-09-10 16-37-50).
Eagle Eye System: Like RDR2 — possibly Jason's ability. Used to highlight items of interest such as jewelry, safes, and security cameras.
Partner System: Buddy Comms, Buddy Ping, command your partner during robberies. The Hank's Waffles clip shows prompts to "check in with Jason" or "hold for more options," including telling Jason to surrender or follow you. Weight and Muscle System (Unconfirmed): Lucia appears thinner around the waist in some clips. Jason appears notably more muscular in the motel pool scene compared to nightclub footage, and skinnier in the motel/nightclub clips. There is also a mention of an Event called MultiGym.
New Gameplay Systems
Money Laundering — An icon in the Hank's Waffles video tracks to a car wash property: a washing machine with a dollar sign in the center, the universal symbol for money laundering. Properties can apparently be purchased for laundering purposes.
Purchasable Businesses — Likely linked with the laundering system.
Robberies — Expanded robbery system with multiple event types.
Fences — Car Fence (mentioned under collectibles) and Art Fence are both in the events list. Iris is connected to the Art Fence (via "Watching Iris" and "Iris Introduce Art Fence" events). Though it is unclear if they will be called fences in-game.
Hacking — Lucia carries Tracker Jammer, Immobilizer Bypass, USB Drive, Auto Dialer. Could indicate Tom Henderson's old leak about the female hacker protagonist.
Command Your Partner — During the Hank's Waffles robbery, prompts allow checking in with Jason, holding for more options, telling Jason to surrender, or telling him to follow you.
Vehicle Discovery/Compendium — In Americas 2021-10-29 20-21-10, Jason rides a Maibatsu Sanchez and the UI shows a new livery has been found.

Witness System and Police Recognition — During the Hank's Waffles robbery, text under the wanted level stars reads "Full Description" — witnesses have a full description of you. When Lucia enters a police vehicle, it changes from "No Vehicle Description" to "Full Vehicle Description." A tip reads: "Any vehicle you are seen entering will be known by the Law." Jason prevents customers with yellow icons from calling cops or running. When a female NPC's icon starts flickering and turns red, she leaves the diner and runs.
Pragmatic Cool/Chaotic & Romantic Cool/Chaotic — Mentioned in the events list alongside "Radio Song/Riding Pillion." Pillion is a term for the rear passenger seat.
Store Banning — Players can get banned from certain stores (Supermarket, Quickshop, Uncle Jack's Liquor) as a consequence of prior actions, similar to RDR2.
Tourist to Local Progression — Events track: Checking out → Experienced Tourist → Full Tourist → Nearly a Local.

Surrender to Police
In Americas 2021-07-12 12-19-51, Lucia can tell Jason to surrender to the police during a robbery.
Improved AI System
Enemy AI — Enemies shoot when you turn your back to them (Americas 2022-02-07 14-18-40). Police adjust their stance depending on cover height, lower position when reloading, keep shooting while moving left and right (Americas 2022-07-22 15-33-32). Police raise guns over higher objects like cars in the Hank's Waffles clip.
NPC Behavior — NPCs travel and converse in groups (like RDR2). In one clip, three men in tourist attire walk past Lucia while talking. A man enters the nightclub as Lucia exits. NPCs stand and drink near bars (Americas_1 2022-04-12 10-28-55). Some NPCs sit on the ground with animations like Sit_Ground_Smoke. Time Until Cops Dispatch — A dispatch timer appears when committing crimes. At Hank's Waffles, police wait for the player to come out rather than rushing in.

Loot Vehicles — A prompt reads "Examine - Stranger SUV" in the Hank's Waffles clip.

Vehicle Controls — D-PAD left for vehicle controls, right for quick options (from Hank's Waffles video).
Improved Vehicle Damage — The car crash in Americas 2022-06-27 14-52-04 shows the front fender splitting apart and hood bending realistically, with spark particles at impact with bridge edges. Car handling seems heavier than GTA V.
First-Person GPS — Car interiors now have working GPS/waypoints on the dashboard while in first-person view. The map shown is a placeholder of a GTA V location.
Passenger Seat Option — Lucia enters only the passenger seat in one clip, implying this is an option.
Character Systems
Dirty Clothes — Suggested by Americas_1 2022-09-12 14-42-12 showing Jason with dirty clothes.
Hair and Facial Hair — Various versions of Jason appear across clips with different hair lengths and beard states, suggesting RDR2-style hair growth or a deeper barber system. Smoking — A cigarette icon is visible in the weapon wheel in Americas 2022-06-01 17-16-15.
Gumball Machines — You can buy gumballs (Americas_1 2022-07-20 17-59-49).
Playing Without Minimap — On-screen waypoints and map icons suggest this is possible. The minimap appears when Jason gets on a bike (Americas 2021-10-29 20-21-10).
Greet/Antagonize — Confirmed by a "Sun Lotion (Greet)" event, meaning this system from RDR2 returns.
Attention to Detail
The leaked footage reveals extraordinary environmental and behavioral detail:
Animal Behavior — Raccoons rummage through trash cans and steal food bags (three separate world events: NIE Raccoon Climb Out Of Garbage, NIE Raccoon Rummage Trash, NIE Raccoon Steal Food Bag).
Character Detail — Light shines through Lucia's ear cartilage via subsurface scattering (from RDR2). Jason presses the brakes before starting a motorcycle, and his wrist bracelets move independently (Americas 2021-10-29 20-21-10). Jason's kneel position changes constantly while crouching (KneelingDesired in the PlayerPed animation set). Jason appears sweaty in Americas 2022-08-03 10-05-49. Environment Detail — Wind behaves realistically near the shore (Americas 2021-09-01 14-44-53). Pool chairs at the motel are destroyed and the water is swampy — the Ped Collisions Ruined Clothes event suggests a realistic collision system affecting NPC/Player clothing. Scuff marks on carpet in the pawn shop (Americas 2021-12-17 10-31-22). An under-construction bridge is visible in the highway clip (Americas 2022-06-27 14-52-04). Dead leaves on the ground in Rockridge (Americas_1 2022-09-12 14-42-12). The dithering fade effect loads objects into the world gradually, making transitions smoother.
Interior Detail — The Hank's Waffles diner has cups on and behind the counter, knife supports, soda and coffee machines with coffee pots and mugs, sinks with ingredient storage, toppings and essences, paper towel holders, waffle makers, cleaning bags, and cups on the floor. Jack of Hearts nightclub has TVs in DVD Player mode. Bars and public areas have TV broadcasting news and events.
Physics — Cops struggle to stand after being shot, avoiding pressure on injured body parts — one tries to stand while protecting the injured area (Americas 2022-04-06 15-55-26). Bullets scratch through vehicles creating sparks (Americas 2022-06-14 19-28-07). Water particles float when shot, and lily pads react to waves (Americas 2022-04-12 18-36-00). Sheriffs in passenger seats look out side windows to check for cross traffic. Birds stand on power lines.
Lighting — The nighttime lighting creates realistic orange tints on roads with bright spots where lights are and accurate reflections. The fog in the shootout clip gives the illusion of strong hurricane-season winds.
Store Systems — Some stores are not open 24/7 (a "Sorry! WE'RE CLOSED" sign appears on a Quickshop door in Americas_1 2022-07-20 17-59-49, a texture that also appears in GTA Vice City: The Definitive Edition). Collision boxes exist for chip bags outside stores, suggesting manual food purchasing like RDR2. Doors feel physically attached and locked/unlocked, unlike GTA V's floating door feel. Stores have more variety due to the focus on robberies.

Songs heard in the leaks are mostly GTA V and Online placeholders, with the notable exception of "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple (not previously featured in the series). The Hank's Waffles robbery uses a Diamond Casino Heist soundtrack with added synths.

Transportation
Metromover — A metromover transit system is visible in Americas 2022-05-13 08-48-26, inspired by the Miami Metromover. The Vice City Metro Mule is a new transit brand.
Horses — The debug menu shows INPUT_HORSE_EXIT alongside INPUT_VEH_EXIT in Americas_1 2022-04-13 17-42-41, though this may be leftover RAGE code from RDR2.

Analysis of video metadata reveals three executable types (credit to TezFunz2):

The progression from bankrelease to beta in the September 2022 clips suggests the game was moving from feature-complete to content-complete status. From content-complete, teams typically enter a "polishing" phase of variable duration. For comparison, Final Fantasy XVI announced content-complete status in June 2022 and launched June 22, 2023.
The Python Leak
Leaked alongside the September 2022 footage but largely overlooked: a Python file related to the game's menu system. A comment in the code reads: #americas is purple background with white text. The hex color referenced is #800080 (purple), suggesting one of the main color schemes for GTA VI's menu may be purple and white.
This Python file was later found in the GTA V source code leak on December 25, 2023.

December 2nd Devkit Footage
A person associated with Aaron Garbut (Rockstar co-studio head) recorded video of GTA VI running on a PS5 devkit in Garbut's home office, showing a brief glimpse of downtown Vice City. Community analysis determined:
- The build was version 636
- Running in Performance Mode (possibly for development purposes only — does not confirm Performance Mode in the final release)
- The footage was actually captured in September 2023
- Captured in Aaron Garbut's home office using a PS5 controller
The individual who recorded it also made questionable and invalid claims about the game that the GTA VI analysis team deemed unreliable. Those claims were not included to avoid spreading misinformation.

January 1st, 2025 Leak
After a year of silence from Rockstar, a Reddit user posted 2 videos and a picture from inside Rockstar San Diego. EXIF metadata shows the footage was captured on June 22, 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic (explaining the empty office as employees worked remotely).
The user's story about obtaining the footage is unclear — they claimed to have gotten it via Snapchat (which doesn't save metadata) in April, while the footage was captured in June. However, the footage appears genuine.
The leak included:
- A video showing an Xbox One X devkit labeled "SAND" with the IP range of Rockstar San Diego (matching the GTA V source code)
- A video showing a monitor displaying a Red Dead Redemption 2 loading screen with a debug bar
- An image showing GTA VI footage on a monitor — Lucia in an environment surrounded by trees, Quonset huts, containers, a silage bunker, and construction equipment
Based on the June 2021 date, the build is likely around v420 (matching leaked footage from a similar timeframe). The exact location is unknown but appears to be an unfinished area with bugs like water caustics appearing on the ground.
